Women’s Health and Sleep

March 15, 2023

Sleep awareness for women’s health is essential, as women’s sleep needs are often unique and complex. Women are more likely to experience sleep disorders such as insomnia and restless leg syndrome, which frequently go underdiagnosed. Research shows that two-thirds of women aren’t getting the restorative sleep needed for full physical and psychological repair, with sleep often more fragmented and disturbed. Monthly hormonal shifts, along with life stages like pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause, add further layers to these sleep challenges. Additionally, chronic pain and shift work can significantly impact sleep quality. While some women may turn to substances to aid sleep, it’s important to note that sedation doesn’t always equate to restorative rest. This week’s focus emphasizes the importance of sleep for women’s health and offers insights to help both women and men better understand these unique challenges. Tune in for tips and strategies to support wellbeing and enhance sleep quality. #BeWell
